THE GOAL

The Conservation Fund partnered with the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project to secure 149 acres of ancestral land of the Lipan Apaches, creating a permanent home for the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project’s growing herd. This land acquisition was not just about expansion—it was a reclamation of heritage, culture, and ecological balance. The Conservation Fund needed a rich, story-driven campaign that could inspire donors, educate the public on Texas-based Indigenous conservation efforts, and highlight the critical importance of conservation efforts nationwide. The Texas Tribal Buffalo Project is a special project that touched the hearts of everyone involved.

OUR STORYTELLING APPROACH

Red Riding Hood Productions was the perfect fit for this project because of our expertise in documentary-style storytelling and our deep appreciation for conservation and land stewardship. We approached this project with care, ensuring every moment we captured honored the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project’s mission and the generations of Indigenous people working to restore their connection to the land, in addition to highlighting The Conservation Fund’s incredible efforts to conserve land and culture across the United States.

Over the course of multiple shoot days, we filmed the original site in Waelder, Texas, documenting the existing herd and the work being done on the land. We then captured the newly acquired property in Floresville on the day the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project moved their herd, allowing us to create a powerful visual contrast of past and future. The overcast sky added a gravity to the moment, reinforcing the weight of the story—the historical loss of land for the Lipan Apache people and the selfless dedication to rebuilding. We relied primarily on natural light to create warm, evocative visuals that reflected the richness of the landscape and the deep-rooted significance of this project. Our small, nimble crew worked seamlessly in the field, capturing everything from quiet moments of connection between the team and the bison to the hands-on work of building fencing and preparing the land for its next chapter.

THE RESULTS THAT MATTER

The final deliverables provided a powerful, story-driven campaign that serves as a lasting tool for the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project and The Conservation Fund. The 90-second brand story captured the heart of the mission, bringing together personal interviews, breathtaking visuals, and an emotional narrative that resonated with audiences. A 30-second cutdown offered a punchier version optimized for social media, ensuring the story could reach a broad audience. The extensive b-roll and photography library equipped the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project with the visuals needed to sustain their fundraising and outreach efforts well beyond the initial campaign.

More than just content, this project provided the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project and The Conservation Fund with the visual storytelling necessary to inspire action, deepen connections with their supporters, and reinforce the importance of Indigenous-led conservation. This was a dream project for Red Riding Hood Productions—one that perfectly aligned with our mission to tell meaningful, visually compelling stories that drive real impact.
